Summerworks presents: Terminus

We are definitely looking forward to this one.

The company behind last year’s smash hit Mr. Marmalade teams up with Maev Beaty to present the Canadian premiere of Terminus. A mother with a heavy conscience, a disembodied soul looking for love and a dangerous loner with a passion for Bette Middler converge in this lyrical Irish spoken-word ballad.

Warning: This production contains words that rhyme and scan in convenient and pleasing ways. It also contains mature language (though spoken in an Irish slang dialect, so you may not pick up on it) and mature themes. Also darkness. This production is not suitable for children (though we promise to do one that is sometime soon!).

Make sure you check out Terminus on one of these dates at the Factory Theatre Mainspace

Summerworks presents: HUFF

Written & Performed by Cliff Cardinal, starting tomorrow (Friday at the Theatre Centre) in Toronto, Ontario is HUFF.  Here's everything you need to know:

Huff is a new play by Cliff Cardinal about the wondrous lives of Wind and his brothers, caught in a torrent of solvent abuse and struggling to cope with the death of their mother. Wind's fantastic gas-induced dream-world bleeds into his haunting reality as he's preyed on by the Trickster through the hallways at school, the abandoned motel he loves more than home, and through his own fragile psyche.

Wrought with dark humor, and vivid imagery Huff weaves a violent, spellbinding tale. Modern pace mixed with First Nation's mythic meets biting stand-up. Video games and trickster collide and Huff conjures a heartbreaking yet hopeful search for love.

Director | Karin Randoja
Production Design | Elizabeth Kantor

Summerworks presents: Hawksley Workman, The God That Comes (this Saturday in Toronto)

Here's what you should know about this upcoming Saturday:

The Theatre Centre on Sat. August 11, Doors 8:00 PM, Show 10:00 PM

"The God that Comes (a work in progress) is an original one-man-band cabaret-rock-&-roll hybrid show featuring Juno-winner Hawklsey Workman. This concept album for the stage tells the story of the Greco-Roman god of wine Bacchus (or Dionysus) and uses Euripides’ The Bacchae as a primary source. In a world ruled by greed and an oppressive king obsessed with rules and order, the lesser classes have taken to the countryside in a hedonistic spiritual revolution fuelled by wine, ritual madness, and ecstasy. Women, slaves, outlaws, and foreigners have all gone to the mountain to worship the god of wine, and to commune with their animal needs to dance, to lose control, to get drunk, and have sex. The king rails against the protesters, leading to a bloody conclusion.

This solo performance, performed by Workman and directed by Barry, fuses the chaotic revelry of a rock concert with the intimacy of theatrical storytelling. The God that Comes is a tonic for a society that has lost its sense of balance, and for a people that have lost touch with their animal instincts. It is an invitation to raise a glass together, hear a story, and get lost in the music for a few hours"
