Classic of The Day: Marvin Gaye - T Plays It Cool

One of our favorite funky beats since forever, this one does not actually feature the vocals of the legendary Marvin Gaye. He actually composed the entire soundtrack for the film "Trouble Man" which his label Motown had secured the rights to in 1972.  We honestly don't know a ton more about this particular jam, if you do, let us know.  We're interested.  Enjoy.

Classic of the day: Dramatics - What You See Is What You Get

Damn.  We came across this jam in the old Boogie Brats bboy video, and dug for it for a couple of years before we realized we already had it in the collection.  Truly a masterpiece of a gem of a funky soulful tune.  Be sure to scour your local used record store for a copy for yourself. It's well worth it.
The Dramatics were a group that released songs they recorded in Detroit, but didn't really achieve much acclaim until this dropped in 1971, when it hit the Billboard Top 100 and rose to #9.  They also sang on "Doggy Dogg World" from Snoop Dogg's album Doggystyle in 1993.  Read some more about them here.

Nu-Mark + Aloe Blacc + Charles Bradley

'Don't Play Around' is from DJ Nu-Mark's 'Broken Sunlight' series.  Volume 6 features the soulful vocals of Charles Bradley and Aloe Blacc.  The result, when mixed with the classic Nu-Mark production is a stirring, powerful soul song, that defies categorization with any particular era.
