VIDEO/GAME: Snoop Lion + Major Lazer 'Get Away

Snoop Lion turned out an incredible album last year in 'Reincarnated' despite a bit of controversy because it meant a change in sound for the legend.  A spiritual awakening led to creating a sound that included much more of a reggae vibe, but along with those influences came a score of other partially thanks to collaboration with Major Lazer.
The two ride again in the video for 'Get Away'.  Inspired by the Nintendo Game Boy Colour days of Pokemon, this 8-bit video game adventure is curious and hilarious.  Thinly veiled metaphor for Snoop's escape to Jamaica with the Major Lazer crew to record 'Reincarnated'? Who could say?

Toronto Mad Decent Block Party Preview V

This is part 5 of our Toronto Mad Decent Block Party preview.  This is the last one, that means it all goes down tonight at Fort York in Toronto.  If you need any more convincing that this is the place to be, listen to some of our favourite music by Major Lazer.

The trio from left to right are Walshyfire, Diplo, and Jillionaire.  They've just released 'Free The Universe', the second full length album.  In between it and the first album 'Guns Dont' Kill People.... Lazers Do' there have been a few singles, and a bunch of remixes.  This is without a doubt one of the most exciting, innovative, irreverent, and important acts in music today.

In addition Major Lazer has also put in production work for some very notable artists, including Snoop Dogg.  Over the course of the last few years Snoop's artistic growth has been fairly public with his use of the new name Snoop Lion, a documentary about the journey, and the newest album, partly produced by Major Lazer.

Watch out for the release of the 'Scare Me' video, starring actor Terry Crews as Major Lazer

Lazer Strikes Back v. 4

Leading up to the release of their album 'Free The Universe' Major Lazer has released 3 mixtapes entitled 'Lazer Strikes Back'.  This is the fourth.  The album is expected April 16th, and the mixtapes contain a collection of remixes of Major Lazer singles and remixes of other artists.

The previous versions have had remixes by artists like Jack Beats, and Yellowclaw, and this one features some extremely brilliant music.  The Shelco Garcia/Teenwolf/Diplo remix of Snoop Lion's 'No Guns Allowed' is a highlight for us.

Snoop Lion + Miley Cyrus: Ashtrays and Heartbreaks

Nowadays when we hear about a new Snoop single, it's apparent that anything is possible.  Major Lazer production, and the changes in Snoop's life have led to a few really great tunes already.  'No Guns Allowed' is a brilliant single, and once you hear this one the anticipation only grows.  Miley Cyrus is on this one too.  'Ashtrays and Heartbreaks' is something you need to hear to believe.

We can't wait for 'Reincarnated' later this month.

Snoop Lion f. Cori B and Drake - No Guns Allowed

So last night, we saw Reincarnated, the documentary on how Snoop Dogg became Snoop Lion. It was incredible, taking us from Doggystyle, to Paid The Cost To Be The Boss, to this current album and everything in between.  Snoop is a humble and thoughtful entity, looking to learn and evolve with the help of Rastafarianism and Jamaican culture.  One of the many songs he works on in the course of the film is this one "No Guns Allowed" with his daughter Cori B, as well as producers Diplo, Dre Skull and Ariel Rechtshaid, as well as Angela Hunte, his wife Shante Broadus and Police drummer, Stewart Copeland.  One thing about this tune is Snoop proclaims several times that it's not going to be a rap album, and then features Toronto MC, Drake on this one.  Kind of out of left field, but we still dig it.  Enjoy.  And see that movie.
