11 Must Have Tracks From The Freestyle Fellowship

Aceyalone, Myka 9, Self Jupiter, PEACE and DJ Kiilu are pretty much the best to ever do it.  We say that because we've believed it for a long, long time. These exceptionally talented gentlemen formed and ultimately made hip hop better as a whole genre, a whole culture.  With them making music together, the bar of what was considered dope rapping was raised considerably.  But it's not just the fact that they are the best MCs with the most raw skill, they also make the absolute dopest tracks.  Here are 11 we hand picked to prove this point - we dare you to try are argue with us.  We dare you.

11. Respect Due

10. Way Cool

9. Ghetto Youth

8.  Once Again

7. Shockadoom

6. Bullies On The Block

5. Can You Find The Level Of Difficulty In This

4.  Planets Ain't Aligned

3. Hot Potato

2. The Promise

1. Pure Thought

Happy Birthday Self Jupiter!

Today marks the birthday of one of the most influential lyricists from Los Angeles.  Self Jupiter began his career as part of the legendary group the Freestyle Fellowship.  Their combination of innovation and irreverence paved the way for the West Coast hip hop movement that has followed their lead ever since.  From their records like "To Whom It May Concern" and "Inner City Griots" to his own solo records like "Hard Hat Area" and his current work with Kenny Segal as The Kleenrz, Jupiter has created and reinvented his own style time and again.

The participation in the Good Life and Project Blowed is a testament to Jupiter embodying the very concept of freestyle.  That daily work on the ability to perform improvised verses fueled his own creativity, and set the groundwork for a worldwide movement.  Today we celebrate Ornette Coleman, one of the great musicians of our time, and a man whose influence on the world of music is felt far and wide.

Self Jupiter and Bionik present "Don't Say Nathan"

Another brand new classic from the super mc Self Jupiter of Freestyle Fellowship/The Kleenrz/Burgundy Fats.  On the beat is the incredible Bionik, who we've known to be a destroyer of headphones for a while now.  Enjoy this one!
