Phoenix covers 'No Woman' by Whitney

Australian radio station Triple J has long invited musicians to cover their favourites for the show 'Like A Version'.  For their appearance the one and only Phoenix take on a song by Chicago's own Whitney.  'No Woman' is already a beautiful, laidback song, and it takes a tone of electronic serenity with this new edition.  Watch below to catch the band in the studio for this brief performance.

Phoenix: Entertainment (Todd Edwards remix)

Two of the finest ablums this year have been 'Bankrupt!' by Phoenix and 'Random Access Memories' by Daft Punk.  You may recall New Jersey producer Todd Edwards singing on 'Fragments of Time' from the Daft Punk record.  The multi-talented artist has just released two remixes of 'Entertainment' from the highly acclaimed Phoenix album.  The vocal mix is very reminiscent of the single we've come to know and love.  The dub mix is closer to the songs we first heard from Todd Edwards.  That distinct style of chopping up vocals cannot be duplicated, or imitated.

Phoenix + R. Kelly: Trying To Be Cool

Phoenix has delivered their collaboration with R. Kelly.  This is yet another 'Trying to be Cool' remix and it's a sound we could definitely get used to.  After hearing of R. Kelly's cameo with Phoenix at Coachella we wondered if the track would resurface, and here we are.

The Grove Fest Preview I: Phoenix

This week we're gearing up for an event that we've been looking forward to for some time.  Toronto's Fort York has proved to be an amazing venue for live music, and the Grove Festival this coming Saturday will likely be the ultimate reason to check it out.  Music luminaries Goldenvoice (The company behind Coachella and so much more) and Arts and Crafts (Toronto based label and management company) have teamed up to put on a show with a beautifully eclectic lineup.

Today we want to talk a bit about the headliner: Phoenix.  You can catch them at the Grove right in between headline sets at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Osheaga in Montreal.  So far 2013 has been a big year for the band that started to take shape back in 1995.  They released their fifth studio album 'Bankrupt!' to wide acclaim and popularity in April, and the record has spawned a couple of incredibly infectious hits, and those have led to tons of astounding remixes.

You might recall 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' their 2009 album that helped propel them to international renown.  It featured songs like 'Listomania' and 'Girlfriend' and led them to such popularity that they headlined festivals like Lollapalooza in 2010.  What some people may not realize is that Phoenix had three albums prior to gaining such notoriety.  In 2000 they released 'United' 2004 'Alphabetical' and in 2006 'It's Never Been Like That'.  Each album has shown fans a new side of the band, and been something of an exploration of new sounds and styles.

Simon White, Phoenix' manager has said on the Tall Tales podcast that when 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' was recorded that it was not easy to find a home to release the record.  Following it's release it swiftly became the band's most successful release and spread their music worldwide.  'Bankrupt!' expands on the brilliance of the albums before it, and having seen Phoenix live before we will continue to recommend checking them our for yourself and absolutely do not miss them live if you have the chance.

Get your tickets for the Grove Festival if you don't have them already!
