New York City was nearing bankruptcy, gang violence was more and more present everyday. From 1968-1975 the city needed an answer, as levels of 'rage and frustration' rose. Kids growing up with their hope deflated, found little else but the gangs.
Shan Nicholson's film 'Rubble Kings' traces a city's transition from a borderline warzone to the birthplace of hip hop culture. Ultimately the film will demonstrate how young people transformed a culture of gang violence into a global culture of art, music, and dance, known as hip hop. The film is mostly completed, and the donations are still very much necessary.
