Hudson Mohawke performs 'Shadows' In Session at Maida Vale exclusively for Annie Mac.  This time he's playing it with the band, and it's a brand new beast.  The session included a few more of the tracks from the incredible album 'Lantern'.  If you're in the UK stream the whole thing here.  Check our 'Lantern' review here.

Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson in Toronto

Rumour has it that Marilyn Manson and the Smashing Pumpkins close out each show on their co-headline tour with a cover of Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'.  The two held a press conference at Virgin Hotels Chicago where they went over what the audience could expect at these shows.  The two joked about their friendship, and Corgan's role as Manson's guitar teacher, and the possibility of Corgan directing a film starring Manson.

The tour hits the Molson Amphitheatre on August 4th, for what is sure to be a show to remember.  With the Smashing Pumpkins performing music from the latest album 'Monuments to an Elegy', and Manson performing music from 'The Pale Emperor' this is sure to be a show focused on their new music and yet still including a collection of older favourites.  Get your tickets here.

Preview: Maceo Parker at the Phoenix 8/11

Our introduction to saxophonist Maceo Parker came more than 30 years into his career.  It wasn't where he began, playing in James Brown's band in the mid-sixties.  It came on De La Soul's 1993 album "Buhloone Mindstate" when he announces "I am Maceo and I be blowin' the soul out of this horn" to begin "I Be Blowin".  Later on the album he plays on "I Am, I Be", a song that made an indelible impression growing up.  Like most of the people overjoyed to see the legendary Maceo Parker and the Greatest Little Funk Orchestra On Earth, the discovery of his music remains so important, because you'll never lose that.

The sense of discovery is pervasive in Maceo Parker's music.  He went on to play in Parliament/Funkadelic in the 1970's, and has also collaborated with a lengthy list of artists including Prince, Bernie Worrell, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and even Color Me Badd.  He's released a number of solo records, included a few with the Kings Men in the 1970's and an impressive 11 albums since 1990's "Roots Revisited".  He performs at the Phoenix Concert Theater on August 11th.
