Amazing Harry Clarke illustrations for Edgar Allen Poe

In 1908 Egar Allen Poe’s 1908 collection of short stories, Tales of Mystery and Imagination, was first published. In 1919, a copy of the “deluxe” edition was printed, which would cost you 5 guineas (in today’s money, that’s about 300 USD). This edition of the book contained a series of incredibly intricate and beautiful illustrations by Harry Clarke, who at the time was an artist only as a hobby.

The book was printed on handmade paper, bound in vellum, with gold lettering. But its cost was mainly due to the 24 full pages of new illustrations. Each copy was signed by Clarke, and apparently the edition topped Christmas lists in 1919.
