The 10 Things About Governors Ball 2016 That Set The Bar High For Every Other Festival

Governors Ball has fast become the quintessential New York music festival.  Much like Lollapalooza in Chicago, Governors Ball selects a unique lineup, and embraces the city's eclectic musical legacy.  For years it's been a favourite of ours, and the 2016 lineup reminds us why.  The list combines older favourites, bright new artists, classic hip hop, standard bearing dj's and just about anything else you can imagine.  We selected 10 stand out acts that make Governors Ball the most promising festival of 2016. Get your tickets here!

1. Thundercat: Whoever thought we might want to enjoy the brilliant funked out future jazz bass insanity that is Thundercat was exactly right. Nice one, Governors Ball!

2. De La Soul: The hip hop legends will performing in their own back yard.  Governors Ball always brings both classic hip hop and some serious local talent to their stages, and they accomplish both with De La Soul in the mix.

3. Bat For Lashes: Last time we had her blow our minds was about 5 years ago. We are do for another round of her greatness.

4. Beck: The mysterious, irreverent Beck spoke about releasing 2 albums within a year.  We can only hope he's following up 'Morning Phase' with it's "sonically dangerous" counterpart.  Whether it's his hits from the 90's or something brand new, Beck will no doubt steal the show.

5. Robyn: In a near headline spot, means we get to see the energetic legend either at night, or at sundown. Last time we saw Robyn was years ago at Sasquatch and she puts on one of the best shows imaginable.

6. Years & Years: After the release of 'Communion' you can expect just about every festival out there wants Years & Years on their lineup.  This is an innovative young band that sounds better live than on their record.

7. Two Door Cinema Club: These guys can do no wrong. Their songs are perfect. Their live show is an exercise in dance rock greatness. You need to check them out.

8. Galantis: This duo have made an international name for themselves in a hurry with a series of amazing singles that grew into the album 'Pharmacy'.  Their live shows have had an incredible reputation since their Coachella 2015 appearance.

9. Miike Snow: They are back. And it's going to be oh. So. Good.

10. Jamie XX: 'In Colour' translates into a brilliant dj set.  Last summer at Bestival in Toronto, Jamie XX captivated his audience on a foggy afternoon, and we've been wanting more ever since.
