The second annual Bruiser Thanksgiving is slated to take place November 25th in Detroit. The legendary Majestic Theatre will be home to an event like no other. We caught a glimpse of the Bruiser Brigade live when Danny Brown brought Dopehead and Zeelooperz to perform with him and Skywalker at Movement in May. The crew brings such inspired energy to the stage that most can't come close to what they do, and this holiday season they're throwing a one of a kind Thanksgiving party in a place that was built 100 years ago.
In addition to the show, Danny Brown will also be financially supporting and leading a workshop with InsideOut Detroit's City Wide Poets Project. Get your tickets here and help Danny Brown support this great cause here!
Detroit is definitely in the house on this one. Dej Loaf and Big Sean go in on 'Back Up' from the '#AndSeeThatsTheThing' EP. She got the world's attention with 'Try Me', and now she's back with an EP set to prove she's a creative force, and a welcome one in modern music. The video is set in a roller rink, juxtaposing scenes of roller skating and club life in the dance scenes. In it you see the balance of youthful innocence and rebellion, as they can rarely be shown. Get '#AndSeeThatsTheThing' on iTunes.
This mural is the work of Detroit artist Fel3000ft. The photo was taken by Patricia Lay-Dorsey at Detroit's Murals in the Market festival, in the city's east market. Countless incredible artists from all over the world joined forces in Detroit to make a lasting impression, a prime example of the boundless creativity and passion growing in the city right now. While the artists featured are nothing short of world class (including Woes and Luke Chueh), this piece is very special. The piece is entitled 'The Spirit of Detroit: Tugging The Heartstrings of the City'.
'Detroit's Son' is the newest album from Guilty Simpson on Stones Throw Records. The single and video for 'The D' perfectly illustrate how the raw, gritty sound of his music reflects the power and determination of the city he comes from, and calls home. The video combines some of the cities icons with the realities of what the citizens of Detroit face everyday. No one else can do it like this.
UPDATE! Listen to 'The Vanguard Organization' now!
