Review: Brodinski's Bromance 7

It struck us by surprise that this is Brodinski's debut solo ep.  For some reason our memory of his catalog has missed this fact, because Brodinski has become such a household name to everyone at Fingers on Blast.  This is Bromance's seventh release, and yet already it and it's founder have grown to international renown and respect in the music community.

Since creating the label, Brodinski has worked tirelessly to send amazing dance music to the ever-growing audience that Bromance is developing.  We've heard incredible tracks by artists like Club Cheval, Jacques Lu Cont, and Gesaffelstein, sometimes released on the flip side of Brodinski tracks.  One thing pervades every Bromance release, be it Brodinski or any of the associated artists.

'Dance Like Machines' seems like an ode to his devotion to create something lasting, something of permanence in the world of temporary tastes, in digital music.  With the phrase 'Cyborgs and androids dance like machines' it also harkens back to the original days of dance music, and the unity it was founded on.

The beginning of the song sounds almost like it could be the soundtrack to a sci-fi film, where the protagonist sees a better tomorrow that the dystopian today.  Before long, the bass takes over and in any club it'll push anyone; human or alien, to dance like a machine.  'Dance Like Machines' is a key example of Brodinski's ability to make a track of the highest energy level, yet without overdoing the elements involved.  The simplest sounds, pieced together with a masterful touch.  The thoughtful arrangement of this tune makes it harken back to early techno, some of Daft Punk's biggest hits, and keeps us looking to the future.

'Hypnotize' begins with a kick drum, and immediately springs to life.  The gradual rise in energy is something we've come to expect from Bromance releases.  Before you know it, a drumroll cues the track springing to life.  The title states it plainly, this song is hypnotic.  On a big sound system, with a virtuoso like Brodinski at the helm this track, much like it's predecessor on Bromance 7 will keep you moving.  Traveling without leaving that spot on the dance floor.

This EP not only solidifies Brodinski's incredible talent as a producer, but also his adept insight on running a label.  Beyond that, it makes it quite clear that Brodinski and his music could come from any era in the history of dance music.  He could be a golden age innovator with a time machine, or a refugee from the future.

Either way, we'll continue to dance like machines.  As long as you do too; it doesn't matter if you're a cyborg or an android.

Club Cheval - Decisions (Video)

Here's what they have to say about this one:

Juvenile yet mature, erudite but fun-loving, Canblaster, Sam Tiba, Myd andPanteros666 represent 'Club Cheval'. They started making music together around 2009, when a schoolmate of Panteros’ (Sam Tiba) joined the crew, adding a different touch to the soundscape due to his Jamaican/Black American music background.

With Club Cheval, you never really know where you’ve landed, yet you feel at home amongst these guys who speak an unknown, tasty language which goes through the curvey, bass-heavy swing of London carnival music, a hectic cabaret mixing style, washes of melodic sweetness coming from Detroit via Tokyo, IDM’s flamboyant nerdism and many other micro-worlds of music.

'Decisions' is a hulky 140 BPM track built around a screaming SH-101 lead and a ninja type beat. We think dancing on the drop feels like drilling through a brick wall filled with heavenly air pockets.

Here's what we have to say about it: we love it.  Enjoy.
