Astrocolor - Astrocolor EP

The Victoria, BC collective have released a sonic adventure based on their namesake, and in the same way, it is full of creative experimentation and undeniable talent. For those like us who are just now hearing about Astrocolor, this is a perfect introduction - which is to say, these three tracks make for a perfect ep that is sure to have you both up and moving and yearning for the full length record slated for a 2017 release (both on Last Gang!).

As far as the music is concerned, expect uplifting, complex but undeniably easy to love and enjoy cosmic disco house funk goodness. You could play this at your cousin's wedding and everyone would lose their minds. You could play this at your TD Bank Christmas party and the place would go nuts. We would be willing to bet money on that.

This music is for everyone. So everyone should listen to it.

Astrocolor have a keen ability to blaze a new trail amongst a surplus of art and culture. What they are doing is both beautifully modern and gloriously traditional. It's simple, but it's full of complex layers at the same time. We will bother our friends to get into Astrocolor for the rest of our lives.

We hope you enjoy as much as we do!

Jackmaster DJ-Kicks

This is just so exciting. Every time we get a DJ Kicks in our inbox we jump for joy - but sometimes we are so amped the anticipation is the real deal. Jackmaster is what they call a DJ's DJ. He's fucking awesome. His brain is an endless arsenal of tunes and tempos and ideas and routines and his ability to convert that into a life changing selection of seamlessly blended tracks is nothing short of world renowned.

His mix starts out with some leftfield ambient goodness to set the stage sonically, but before you know it he's off to the races. He plays a million different styles, and you don't even notice the changes because you are way too busy having a great time. Whether you're driving, biking, running, by the pool, working, making soup, whatever it is you're doing - you will get completely lost in this mix. And once you're done you won't be able to wait to play it again. And it's gonna be like that forever.

You're life will be different now. In the best way.

Another thing that makes this guy a master of his craft is that - he knows all of your favorite songs, even if you don't know them yet. You will find yourself scouring this tracklist, and trust us, it is FULL of wonderful selections.

Go here to grab it, and listen to the whole mix now!

Huck Finn 'Before You Begin'

Granted, this came out a while ago - but we didn't review it, and we meant to! So here we are. Besides, it's fresh as hell. It sounds like it came out tomorrow, and great music such as this has no expiry date. But hey, that's the point of this website, right? We aren't about the brand new shit, as much as we are about the real good shit.

Anyways, this record flew under our radar. But it shouldn't have, because Huck Finn pulls off a vibe and an extra cool sound that not everyone execute so well. The vocals are flawless over a variety of modern electronic vibes, disco especially, at least to begin with.

'Before You Begin' reminds us of so many different things throughout. Sometimes, it's Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. Sometimes it's Junior Boys, or Hawksley Workman, or Hot Chip, or Miike Snow. They have a broad spectrum of influences and styles, but a sound that is unmistakably their own. But like a Hot Chip or Junior Boys, Huck Finn has a mastery of electronic music in general that makes this lp an adventure, and they'll keep you guessing at every turn.

We love 'We Ain't Worried', but this whole album is super great. We can't overstate how unpredictable it is, and how musically talented Huck Finn is as a duo. We are fans for life.

Mr. Lif, The Polish Ambassador, Ayla Nereo 'Terra Bella'

Mr. Lif is a gifted music maker. He is a skilled mc, at a level that is comparable to absolutely no one. We're not here to say who is the best MC, but Mr. Lif is talented far beyond many who usually make up that particular conversation.

That being said, hearing him collaborate on an entire album with Ayla Nereo - who has an absolutely stunning voice and a beautifully soulful presence on the record, and The Polish Ambassador, whose brilliant production makes this the instant classic that it is. We kid you not, 'Terra Bella' is absolutely spectacular.

The first three tracks vary so much from each other, but are so perfectly sequenced - and it continues for the rest of the album. There are nothing but fun, smart tracks on here that are so funky you won't be able to sit still.

Seriously, on every track - Mr. Lif is ON FIRE. Ayla Nereo is FLAWLESS. The Polish Ambassador is PERFECT. Zumbi from Zion I is on there, and his verse is absolutely out of this world. Chali 2na too! And yep, same thing - one of the best.

We can't let this record go under the radar. Click play. Listen to it, actually. And then put it on at a party. And then put it on while your studying or drawing or walking your dog or driving to Wyoming. Then tell some of your friends how great it is.

Tell them all! Go tell them about 'Terra Bella'!

They will thank you later.
